Joe DiMaggio & Marilyn Monroe in their first official photos together, ‘53.

They for me, were the most perfect couple. Their marriage lasted about a year, or to be exact only a little over nine months but they always kept in touch, all to the day that Marilyn past away.

It is known that Joe was always deeply in love with Marilyn. He never remarried. I am a firm believer that Marilyn was always in love with him, too. They had a unique relationship, you can’t deny that. They were starting things up again around the time when Marilyn died. He was a great help to her at that time. She was finally getting back on her feet it seemed at that time. It was actually believed that on the day Marilyn was buried, was the day she and Joe were supposed to be married again. But that has never been confirmed.

In the ceremony Joe got up and made a speech, apart of it sounding like this ‘I cannot say goodbye. Marilyn never liked goodbyes, but in that peculiar way she had of turning things around so that they face reality – I will say au revoir. For the country to which she has gone, we must all someday visit.’

The mourners said their last ‘au revoirs’ to Marilyn. Joe wanted to have his moment with Marilyn after the others. At last he finally walked over to Marilyn’s open casket and bent over as tears streamed down his cheeks. He placed three roses in her hands, sobbing aloud as he gave her the last kiss, telling her ‘I love you, I love you, I love you.’.

After Marilyn’s death, Joe mourned, like any other man would do if they would have lost the love of their life. But he never seemed to get over her tragic death. Joe had a half-dozen red roses delivered three times a week to her crypt for 20 years. Joe’s last words were ‘I’ll finally get to see Marilyn’

What I think is really heartbreaking, is when I read stuff people write on the internet, about Joe not deserving Marilyn because she was much more beautiful than he was. It’s heartbreaking. And that is just telling me that you know nothing about them as a couple.  In my own opinion Joe was quite handsome.  People please, think twice before you judge someone over their looks.
